Aspen update from her mom. Such great improvement! "Aspen did something really cool today! She returned to the ball diamond. Was it perfect..no, is she playing at the level she was..no,did she struggle at times..sure, did her vision challenge her..absolutely. BUT....she made a great play with a tag at third base..and most importantly..SHE HAD THE COURAGE TO GO OUT AND TRY, AND SHE HAD FUN! This girl is on 🔥. She worked hard in therapy and at home this week to be cleared to safely try playing (with her safety equipment, and masked in the dugout). A big shout out to the SHARKS players and coaches! Some of these girls never met her before today(5 are previous teammates),all of them were so kind, supportive, and welcomed her openly. I AM SO PROUD OF HER COURAGE,and thankful for every one of her teammates. We have 7 more weeks of therapy but today is a very good sign."

I am a member of Central. I currently live in southwest Florida. I am asking for prayers of protection and most of all safety as we are anticipating a major hurricane to hit next week Tuesday-Thursday. Most likely my kids will be out of school if conditions are deemed unsafe. I will not be able to work if my workplace decides to close as well. I depend on my paychecks to essentially survive financially. Thank you all, may God richly bless you.

Aspen update from her mom: Everything went well today. The doctor who did her sedation today traded to have her case. He was the head of her ICU care team for our second week in Devos. The head of her care team from her first week also stopped to see her. They were the two that did her sedation and procedures for her temporary line and her "permanent" line. It was a nice surprise to see them, and that Dr Whitaker got to help take out what he helped put in. They were both so happy to see her looking so good and healed. Both of those Doctors had a lot of hours into her case and it was nice to thank them in person.

Aspen update from her mom: Update: when I was told it will get busier for me after discharge.. they were not wrong. It's worth it to be home at night, but it's busy. Monday we were supposed to have a calm day off but we ended up having to run to Devos for a dressing change since her surgery wasn't happening Tuesday. Tuesday she had her dentist appt to get the remnants of not brushing her teeth for 30 days off her teeth. I had literally 2+ hours of phone calls(school, insurance, doctor, pharmacy)to return through the day. Today we got up at 645 to get to our follow up nephrology appointment at Devos. She was having an allergic reaction to the dressing they applied on Monday so that needed changed and set us behind. We ended up having to leave for MFB before they were able to draw her labs. Three hours of appts later we returned to devos to finish our appointment. Thank goodness for grocery pickup,we swung through an hour late for our scheduled order. I Seriously love grocery pickup! We had mostly as expected info at her appointment. Unfortunately her blood pressure is higher again so we will go back up a little on her BP medication. We still don't have her kidney blood work back. Praying that it hasn't reverted. Tomorrow we have 3 hours of appointments at MFB,then her post hospitalization appointment at her primary doctor's office a couple hours later. Friday her surgery to remove her central line is scheduled! Next week they are hoping to add some home bound schooling to the mix. After this week I feel it will get easier and more of a routine. Praise: She continues to improve daily We get to sleep home Prayer: Kidney blood work to come back good Her abilities to continue to improve Central line removal to happen as scheduled and go well. Her to sleep at night. One of her meds may be contributing to her vivid dreams,we are talking to her physician about dropping it. We are pursuing trauma counseling to make sure we offer her all the support we can.

Aspen update, from her mom. Yesterday was a great day. We are home! We pulled in to a decorated driveway and welcome balloons. Her "second family"(Groen's) came before the bus to leave her this surprise. We walked through the doors and all cried and had a prayer of praise for all the times we cried out to God for a miracle, yesterday those answered prayers were very evident. She WALKED out of the hospital with fully functioning kidneys, a fully functioning pancreas, use of all her limbs, and most of her vision and cognitive abilities(more later). It will take us awhile to get used to our new "temporary" life. It was busy trying to figure out new medical devices, medication schedules, missed details that required phone calls and messages to get scripts called in. A run to Costco and Walmart for supplies to make our family celebration meal tonight(waited for Kyra to celebrate)and some Lego kits for Aspens cognitive therapy. Aspens physical abilities are nothing short of a gift from God. She took a walk with me down the street and back. I'll post another post today with directed praise and prayer. I really wanted one post to focus on all the positives of God's Gifts and Grace. Thank you ALL!!

Aspen update from her mom: Today was another good day. Her kidney numbers came back good. We did not need dialysis. We are waiting for a call from Devos with when her port is scheduled to be removed. Her sugars are varying a little now that we are off insulin but overall they have shown that her pancreas is doing well. She had a super busy day. Her OT testing showed what I was expecting. The signal from her eyes is sometimes flipped when it hits the brain. She will undergo more in depth neuro psychology testing tomorrow. Her PT went so well today that she was literally jogging in the halls and outside in the grass. She even got to go on a community outing in the afternoon. Her PT and I got to take her on a walk to the downtown market for Boba tea and a mochi donut. Its a decent distance, she did well and only needed to hold my hand for stability the last block. The recreational therapy team had her riding their adaptive bike through the halls and outside today. The plan is still to discharge from inpatient on Friday. We made the decision to continue our outpatient rehab at Mary Free bed main campus. The closer option for rehab did not offer all of the services she needed at the same time. Praise: Physical improvements Strength improvements Kidney function Pancreas function Pray: Pancreas to start to regulate sugars better Kidneys to continue to function Clear answers on her vision to brain therapy needs Her port removal to happen soon and.go well. It is another surgery, she endured 2 already. It will be done outpatient if we are discharged from MFB before it is removed.

Aspen update from her mom: One month ago today we reported to the Emergency room where Aspen was diagnosed with STEC (food poisoning). It's been the worst month of all of our lives. The pain and suffering she has endured is beyond the imaginable. The next few months of therapy will take more dedication, perseverance, and strength. She is proving her stubborn side as she gives therapy 100% all the time. Her survival alone is a miracle. Her regaining function of her brain, kidneys, pancreas, and left side paralysis are also all miracles. Today her kidney function numbers are still good. Tomorrow they test again and then they will schedule surgery to remove her line. After several days of low blood sugars and slowly decreased insulin, tonight they totally discontinued all insulin. All indications are her pancreas can maintain her glucose on its own. Her vision and some cognitive abilities will need further investigation yet this week. The current plan is to release her to outpatient therapy this weekend. She will have therapies most days, but we will get to sleep at home. Praise: The many miracles Kidney function A working pancreas Use of all 4 limbs I'm able to be off work and can do the medical care and support she needs at home. Pray: Her kidneys maintain Her pancreas maintains w/o artificial help Answers and directed therapy for her cognitive struggles A smooth transition home We all maintain our strength and patience for the long therapy road ahead. Eventually a smooth transition off the many meds she is currently on for organ support and symptom management. Vision to fully return to her left side(it is improving). Thank you for your continued support even after we break out of here!

Aspen update: The blessings keep coming today! This picture is from Friday(she gave the ok to post) We didn't know then that it would be her last time hooked to dialysis. Her lab values came back good enough today that they never even connected her! They will monitor her blood for this week. If she maintains the good numbers they will schedule surgery to remove her central line. This kid is strong,a fighter, and her God is a miracle worker. Thanks to all her Prayer Warriors. Now we need you all to pray that her kidneys maintain. She could also use prayers for her Pancreas to continue proving it can come back 100% too(more on that in next day or so,we are well on our way).

Aspen update from her mom: This morning started rough again with sugar lows and vomiting. She barfed through her breakfast and her OT. She got a little better, then was low again at lunch. They got her insulin decreased again. She seemed to have a good day after that, and even went outside with dad for a "long time". Today I took some time for myself. I stopped at the pharmacy to sort out all the scrips coming in,and have them hold them at this point. I got a pedicure which an amazing friend surprised me and arranged with them to upgrade and covered the tab. Thanks a ton Sam! I then went home to do some tasks, get some things for Aspen, take a nap, and just be home awhile. The cats are so confused. I got to see Sam for a little while for the first time since this started. I then picked up Kyra from work and we grabbed curbside and headed back. It was nice to get a little time alone with Kyra. The girls spent the night in the game room. Praise: Aspens making improvements every day Some quality time outside and in the evening A good nap, socialization, and refresh for me. Pray: Aspen has a comfortable night Her sugars stabilize and we no longer need insulin Her kidneys pass the test this weekend. Strength for her therapies tomorrow. Her schedule is really full tomorrow. Aspens emotional health. It's getting harder as she gets healthier. She misses her old life.

Aspen update, from her Mom: Today was a very busy day! We started the morning with a low blood sugar and vomiting,we went through our diabetes education, then met with everyone for discharge. She proceeded to have low blood sugars the entire day, leading to her being lightheaded, quesy, and sick most of the day. They did a last minute reduction to her insulin just before discharge. It was emotional leaving with her as the staff all lined up and cheered as we exited. They gave her a gift from the staff. Two weeks ago we would never have believed today would happen. We drove across town and checked her into MFB. She was examined by her care team there, assessed by her physical therapist for her to use the bathroom with my assistance. She had an even lower blood sugar again. We got her walls decorated and have her stuff all settled in. Tomorrow will be a busy day of therapy and dialysis in the afternoon. Praise: We have progressed to the next step Her pancreas appears to have decided to kick out some insulin. However annoying today's lows are a good sign. Being well enough to not need Devos Pray: The endocrinology team tomorrow is willing to lower her insulin again. Diabetes to really subside A good transition back to devos tomorrow and a good dialysis run. The first day of therapy goes well. Kidneys to start filtering. A good night's sleep in our new room

Aspen update from her mom: Tonight is the 25th night of our hospital campout. Tomorrow we transition to the next stage of our "Adventure". We are transferring to Mary Free Bed to start inpatient rehab. We will return to Helen Devos 3 times a week for dialysis and appointments with her multiple specialists. She still has struggles in multiple organs, but the belief is these symptoms can be managed effectively while she is at MFB,and the benefit of starting her rehab is worth the logistic challenge. Today was a busy day. She had all 3 therapies and dialysis today. Tonight we were able to have her "second family" visit. It was so good to get her in the garden for fresh air. Hearing the chatter and giggles was good for all of us. Praise: We are moving forward Improvements Both world class facilities are so close to home. Her numbers were good this morning Pray: I'm trying to absorb everything I need to know. Pray for strength for tomorrow. We both settle into our new environment without many hiccups We have diabetes education first thing tomorrow morning,Pray for Aspens emotional strength and understanding. No more setbacks, as we transition. Thank you all. It was believed we would be going to MFB next week. She continues to impress the care team with huge improvements so they decided to send her before the weekend so we can get started and not delay her progress and return to normal.

From Aspen’s mom: I am going to leave this a little raw tonight: Its been a rough 24 hours. Aspen exhibited some confusion and vision issues last night. Today was supposed to be a quiet day, we had plans to put up the sleeping sign and watch a movie together since we didn't have dialysis. That quickly changed during morning care meeting, which was followed by me having a meeting with endocrinology while Aspen had PT/OT, then being rushed to an over 2 hour ophthalmology appointment(we added yet another specialist and complication)we once again couldn't even get 10 minutes alone to decompress. Here's what we know: Her kidneys are producing urine but not filtering properly. She will need dialysis longer term. She is having confusion consistent with brain trauma and it's healing process She is experiencing double vision, her optic nerves are swollen. She has loss of peripheral vision in her left eye. She has been officially diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, they have to diagnose to continue to treat it. Here's what they believe: It is still possible for her kidneys to fully recover, but the more time goes by the lower the chance of full recovery. Her care team is not giving up hope, and still believe it will happen. The confusion and vision issues are consistent with the recovery process of a brain injury. They are pretty confident she will make a full recovery. The peripheral vision is the biggest question and they have no way of knowing other than time. We will start eye therapy to strengthen her eye muscles and correct the double vision. It is still possible for her diabetes to resolve itself, in order to properly care for her now and in the future if it doesn't resolve, we are going through with the education process. They are proceeding with the process of obtaining approval for an insulin pump and glucose monitor. Right now she is being poked constantly to test and deliver insulin. We also know; She has made immense improvements with strength in the last couple days. We are seeing more of her personality in the last two days. She is a miracle and a fighter! God has a plan for her. Prayer works Praise: This morning she is stronger than yesterday Her hemoglobin, wbc, and platelets are returning to normal. Pray: The conversation and education with her about diabetes and new equipment goes well. Her kidneys will start filtering Her peripheral vision to return, double vision to cease, and brain to heal completely. A good dialysis run tomorrow, they usually wear her out and we struggle the last half hour. Some quiet time. The swinging door has become too much,we need some time just us. Today I officially hit burn out,my head was spinning with lots of information and none of it easy to swallow or accept. We are so thankful for all of you. We refuse to give up hope for a full recovery. Miracles happen.

Aspen update, from her mom: Prayer warriors: with Aspens permission I present you with a picture of her. She got to have a shower(sitting chair) during her PT appointment today. Her feeding tube came up during a vomiting episode last night. Her statement was "well that was a answer to prayer". She no longer has an IV or feeding tube, everything she still needs goes through her central line or can be taken by mouth. She has produced urine twice today. Her numbers say she is rapidly getting better. She looks pretty puffy today, but look at those clear eyes. They are going to do Lasix instead of dialysis today to see if we can push her kidneys a little. She will most likely need dialysis tomorrow, but skipping 2 days is a huge step toward our transition to Mary Free Bed. Her strength is so much better than even yesterday. This child is a miracle!. I'm starting to see glimpses of my little girl shine through. To see her unattached to lines, wires, and machines is amazing! Praise God and thank you all for praying. Praise: Thank God for all the miracles! Those bright blue focused eyes! Pray: Aspen is struggling with tears every morning, she is struggling with missing "her good life". She has nightmares about "never getting healthy". Kidney function to improve No more vomiting Sugars to stabilize Blood pressure to stabilize Her brain to speech pathway to clear. Aspen update, from her mom; The weekend brings a little quieter time. Aspen did have morning vomiting,so we are going to start getting creative to make sure no meds go in on an empty stomach. We will get it figured out, her brunch has stayed down so far. She has had an emotion morning of crying for her old life back, of wanting to go home, see her cats, see her friends. As we talked she said she feels bad for people who have to be here a whole week. I asked her how long she thought she has been here. She said a couple days. I told her we have been in the hospital for 21 days. She just stared at me like I was lying. She doesn't remember most of it. I told her when she's better I will let her read about everyday and show her pictures of all the equipment they used to save her life. Praise: All the improvements Her strength is even better today Video calling to ease the pain She had urine output She doesn't remember the hardest days Pray: Emotional strength for her, as she gets better, the days get longer No more vomiting Continued strength improvements on her left side. Aspen update from her mom:: Aspen had a decent night last night. We "lost" her last working IV during the night. Since she is being a trooper and eating so well,we are going to try discontinuing her tube feeds. She only needed that iv for her anti nausea at this point, and the anti-nausea was only at night during her tube feeds. She just finished a long run of dialysis. Her "numbers" are as expected. She is napping before her PT/OT. Then we will get a little down time. Maybe Mom can get a nap. Last night was the first night, that didn't include a trauma, that I didn't get much sleep. Some nurses are good at sneaking in and out, others turn on the fluorescent overheads, let the door slam, and talk at normal volume. We are very thankful for all the team members who have contributed to her care. We are even more thankful for those that truly go the extra mile. Praise: Another good day in a row. Her hemoglobin rose on its own Urine output Prayer: More urine output Increased strength Some good sleep tonight. Her nutrition to maintain with anything by tube Another good session of PT/OT

Aspen update, from her mom: Praise God! I just had a surprise visit from one of the neurology team doctors. He wanted to see Aspen for a special reason. He was here to ask if we are OK with him continuing to follow Aspen on her journey long term. After a long conversation he told us that Aspen was a miracle. He has spent many long nights reading case studies looking for answers. He admitted that Aspen is the worst case of HUS they have treated. She is unique in the fact that she had all components and her encephalitis caused a lateral paralysis. He was unable to find a single case that exhibited all of her challenges. She is also outside of the high risk age group. He asked us permission to write a case study about Aspen. There will be some involvement from us for this to happen. Being told your daughter is a miracle is humbling, being asked to be a part of helping others in our situation is a honor. Aspens prayer has been to not let any other kids get sick like her. I think this is a close second. Information from her treatment will be used to save other kids lives. I'll write more about all of the good things from today, but right now, THANK YOU ALL FOR PRAYING US THROUGH A MIRACLE. We still have a long road of rehab, everyone is totally committed in not just her survival, but seeing her thrive.

Aspen update, from her mom: Night 18 of our hospital campout. Today morning care meeting came with mixed emotions. She had produced some urine in the night, but not enough to say her kidneys are really functioning. Her numbers and fluid retention required dialysis today, they had hoped to wait until tomorrow. Some of her lab work came back from Cincinnati and showed that she was metabolizing her injection of autoimmune medication in 4-5 days instead of 7,so they dosed her early again today. She vomited up her new formula today. Her MRI came back showing the inflammation had gone down, but she still has loss of some neurological abilities. They hope the early dose of autoimmune will aid with this. Her hemoglobin has dropped but they did not have to transfuse her today. She has made several improvements. Tonight she ate a whole cup of panera Mac and cheese. She was able to feed herself and grasp her drink cup. Today Alex flew solo so that I could go home for a few hours(Thanks honey) I had only been home for 45 minutes since this nightmare began. If felt good to do a couple things at home, pack my own clothes, lay down for 2 hrs. I returned to a happy patient, she said she had fun with Dad,but she missed me and I made her whole day with new altered pjs(added velcro shoulders so that they can access her lines),and of course Panera. Praise: Good MRI results Strength improvements SHE FEED HERSELF AND ATE A FULL MEAL TONIGHT A good working parent partner to share the load with. Prayer: Her neurological symptoms to subside Strength in her left arm to return. Her kidneys to start to more consistently function Her nightly feeding of formula to stay down. Her glucose to stabilize and not need insulin.

Some good news from Aspen's mom, but don't stop praying! Late night update: We graduated out of PICU! Tonight we left all our new friends and moved down a floor. Unfortunately right as we moved Aspen had an episode of lost/blurry vision. We just got back from MRI and, since no doctors are running in the room, there must not be anything major. We should get results in tomorrow's care meeting. They anticipate this MRI to show that her encephalitis is decreasing and causing the brain activity. Which as sad as it is,it's really a good thing. She is tolerating the new formula so far and was able to eat real food tonight. Her sugars were more stable today. Dialysis makes her very tired, but it removes her fluid retention. Praise: Her vision appears better now Improved symptoms not requiring ICU Ability to eat real food Prayer: Good MRI results Continued improvement Her left arm to "wake up" Strength to start to sit and hold her head up Thank you all.

Aspen Update: Praise God. Aspen is getting stronger everyday. Last night she started vomiting her feedings so they just switched her "formula", the new one just started. She was experiencing nerve pain in her limbs through the night. This is a GOOD thing and they will start the proper medication to help with this. Your prayers must have helped last night as we had an unexpected nursing change at 11 pm. They had to call someone in and that nurse loves Aspen. It was Aspens favorite "grandma nurse", if anyone knows Dawn Eding she is amazing and a lifesaver. She sat and massaged Aspens painful limbs most of the night, while I slept. We have liked every care provider here, but some just have a special touch at the right time. Today she had PT/OT and her exams by every specialty. She got a "wet" bed bath by myself and two nurses who said they didn't care how much water they had to wipe up. She can't have a traditional bath for a long time yet. She is bed bound and her central line can't get wet. We really washed her hair and body with mom's good shampoo and soap and poured water over as needed. She is sleeping now and about to hook up to her dialysis for 2.5 hrs. Her "numbers " this morning show we are improving. Her hemoglobin was low again(this is expected),so they will give her a unit right through the dialysis process. Today we Praise God for all the steps towards healing. Every caregiver is shocked when they see her. She has improved leaps and bounds in the last two days. Today is also an emotional day. She was supposed to have her first day of middle school today. She already missed her week camping with just mom and her first week of fall softball. She is still somewhat unaware of all of these misses. We will start to work through it when we feel it is appropriate. Praise: Lots of improvements that add up Seeing the cranky side(it means she's getting better) Care providers willing to accommodate her requests as much as possible. Pray: We may have an MRI today to see how much the swelling has gone down. Pray for good and appropriate results. No more seizures Ability to keep down her new feedings Glucose control and the diabetes to subside Emotional stability as she is aware more and is trying to understand everything that has happened to her. Thank you continuing to pray. We need all of you. The road is going to be long yet,but the good days give us lots of joy and hope.

Latest Aspen Update from her mom: I don't know how to begin...Last night Aspen had two more seizures. They had to medically stop the second. We were devastated. She slept all night and is still pretty out of it today. Those drugs are potent. Yesterday was such a high, the middle of the night was such a low. The emotional turmoil on the rest of us is taking its toll. I struggled to sleep, then struggled to dress myself and face the constant flow of specialists and their physical exams this morning. Morning care meeting helped me clear my head a little. Here's what we know: Her hemoglobin maintained over night Her platelet increased Her other lab numbers all look better. Her left side weakness is worse this morning than last night (but that could be drug fog) She still wants a pulled pork sandwich and her Dad. (Who knew he gives good leg massages?) Her sugars are still bouncing everywhere, endocrinologist came in and we are switching her to a different insulin plan. Here's what they believe: All of this is not unusual for severe HUS The seizures are due to the swelling decreasing in her brain causing miscommunication. Overall she is still getting better Last night was a blip in her road to complete healing Those may not be her last seizures as the brain starts to wake up. Numbers show her kidneys are trying and clearing a little. Her sugars are still due to a steroid reaction. Praise: Great Disease process numbers She can still speak today and is moving her right side in bed and can feel her left side. Great family and friends supporting us. Amazing staff at Devos Prayer: Mental and emotional health for all 4 of us (and those closest to us). No more seizures Continued pain control on just Tylenol Sugars to stabilize Steps in the right direction BRAIN SWELLING TO SUBSIDE Thank you all for praying us through it. If tonight around 10 pm you could all pray for peace in my momma soul to be able to let go and sleep that would be amazing.

Aspen Update from her mom: Today was a good day. It was busy,as she is more awake, she has more needs. I was really scared that the improvements were not permanent. Our care meeting did reveal that her hemoglobin and platelets are still dropping low and she still needs transfusions to maintain them but....God provides! As the nephrologist was about to say that the urine output might not be reproducible, she proved it was. She hasn't gone again since, but every 12 hrs is a win. Her sugars are still needing to be insulin controlled, which means hourly sugar checks. Tonight she is watching baseball, totally coherent, eyes focused! She also wanted her legs stretched, and then started MOVING HER LEFT LEG HERSELF. Her EEG came off tonight. Kyra and I spent an hour trying to wash glue off of her scalp and wash her hair, using wash clothes and warm water. We gave her a pedicure and lotioned her body. She was cleared to try all foods. She took one bite of many things, everything tastes bad so far, even ice cream. She was able to video chat with her second family. We have a long way to go to be "out of the woods" ,but today we have come so far. Today we praise God that although very weak,we can see our Aspen and her personality coming back. Praise: Urine Improved Brain function Movement on the left side Quality family time Video chat with Kendall and the family went well The many strangers who donated to provide life saving blood. She has had several units. Prayer: Continued Brain function improvements Kidneys to start more consistently Strength to return to her whole body Her glucose to stabilize Her hemoglobin and platelet numbers to maintain. Her understanding as tonight she just wants to go home. I honestly believe that all your prayers for a miracle have been answered. Today is a different day than yesterday. Continue to pray for a miracle. The road ahead is still very long, Thank you for traveling it with us.

Aspen update, from her Mom. Not a good day. Update: I had to take the day to process and redirect before trying to post. One step forward two steps back is how this disease tends to be. What we know: The Toxin has started to increase again(yesterday we thought it had passed) Her glucose remains a concern and she will be treated as a diabetic for now. They do still believe that it may be temporary. She has not had anymore seizures since being put on a preventative medication. Her blood pressure remains high when untreated. This is due to increased fluid from no kidney function. She has not produced urine again, but with toxins increasing again that is not a surprise. Her brain swelling was not responding to steroids and was causing the glucose side effects so they were discontinued. She still has swelling which is effecting her speech and causing left side weakness. They gave her a different medication to help reduce that swelling. Her hemoglobin was doing good but she lost some blood after her procedure so they will recheck that. Her platelets are dropping again so they will discuss another unit tomorrow if necessary. Her dialysis didn't go great today. They will try again tomorrow. Praise: Her hgb is doing well The central line went well and is more comfortable She got a sponge bath today Her grip in right hand was stronger today. Her left side droop looks better today She continues to take some food by mouth We are NOT leaving ICU for at least a few days.(I would rather her get more immediate care) Pray: A miracle Complete healing The Toxin to be gone A complete dialysis run tomorrow Sugars to self regulate BRAIN SWELLING TO SUBSIDE!! As they start to talk long term our anxiety is increasing. The highs with HUS are usually followed by extreme lows. Please pray for peace for us as we try to navigate this. Pray for us to not get discouraged. Pray for Aspen to not stop fighting. Today is the first day I sensed her fight decrease. I don't know if she is scared, since she can't tell us, but it's safe to assume she is. Thank you all.

Aspen Update, from her mom: Here is a picture of today's sunrise from our room. Last night was a very calm night. She is on some serious meds so she slept the whole last 24 hrs. This morning she is communicating a little. She has a speech appointment, and a PT/OT appointment. They collected a respiratory panel on her this morning in hopes of pin pointing the origin of her fevers. They can not put her new central line in until she is fever free for 24 hrs. She is tolerating her feeding tube well. We have a couple hurdles to cross today, but they have mentioned discussing moving her off the ICU floor to a lower level. Praise: Lots of small improvements that add up. We had good sleep last night Prayer: Pain control without using a fever reducer is challenging. Pray she can tolerate the next few hours. Pain relief in general. As she becomes alert her pain increases. We have to have her speech appointment without pain killers on board. The next few hours will be rough. Ongoing prayers for our family and friends. We still have a VERY LONG ROAD ahead of us,but today I the first day we haven't gone backwards! Today we celebrate baby steps. Thank you to the hundreds of prayer warriors! I don't even know half of you out there praying but Thank You for loving our angel.

Aspen Update from her mom: After our early morning setbacks, today was very busy. Aspen was pretty out of it all day due to seizure meds. 645 her 4 hours of dialysis started. Every specialist group in her care team examined her before our morning care meeting. Notes: MRA showed no larger clots meaning her chance of stroke is minimal. MRI showed that the inflammation they saw before is for sure there and actually larger than previously thought. This explains the loss of speech with the loss of function in left side. Her hemoglobin dropped low again another unit of blood was given. Her other values showed that we have crested in the disease process. That should slowly get better, but the side effects may get worse for awhile yet. They hooked up another EEG and within one hour she had seizure activity in the brain that wasn't visible from outside the body. Her glucose went critical, she is now on an insulin drip. Her temporary ports for dialysis need to be replaced with a long term central line. That should happen Friday. PT/OT came and helped loosen up her tight muscles. They inserted a feeding tube as she hasn't taken in food since this nightmare started. Her fever remains She urinated today!!!! This is the best breakthrough. It means her kidneys are waking up. It may be very slowly,it might not happen again for several days but they are not completely non-functioning. Praise: PEE-literally MRA came back negative for clots Her disease indicators are improving. Constant support system Pray: No more seizures Regain her speech and body function Feeding tube feedings go well Comfort for her as she is now non verbal and I'm sure confused. A miracle and breakthrough. Strength for the 3 of us,this is really wearing on Kyra,Alex, and I. For her best friend Kendall. Tonight was orientation. Tomorrow is softball. Direction on whether to allow a FaceTime between the girls or whether it would be too traumatic right now. The best thing we have heard is that every specialist still beliefs that she can recover 100%. We just need lots of patience.

Please pray for my friend’s 11-year-old daughter, Aspen. Aspen has STEC—Shiga Toxin E. Coli—a very severe form of food poisoning. She has been in the hospital for a week and a half with serious symptoms, including neurological problems and kidney complications requiring dialysis, and is currently at DeVos Children’s Hospital. I’m adding the latest updated from her mother. “ Aspen update: I don't have the energy for anything other than a totally raw post this morning. Aspen had two seizures during the night, I was alone for the first one,the second one was witnessed by the nurse. The second one required the response team. There are lots of moving parts today, more testing, more results we are waiting for her team to decide if they need to chase answers on. No parent should ever have to go through what we did last night. I have held it together and even gotten some sleep to this point. Today we are scared,we are raw with emotion,we are tired. This angel should not have to endure all this pain and suffering. If I don't post again today, know that we are trying. We like to post answers not questions. I might just not have the emotional strength to put anymore in writing for a few hours or the day. Thanks for praying.”

I have had to recently quit a game on my phone. It got to be an addiction so much so that it became a gambling issue. I have since removed the game completely off my phone. Right now my bank account is in the negative of at least -$600. I was doing very well financially until I downloaded the game shortly before Thanksgiving. If I do not get these funds quickly, I will be faced with overdraft fees and I really do not want to deal with those. It would take a miracle to get the money this week and I feel as if my paycheck coming up will not cover the expenses I have to pay for soon. My rent is usually my biggest monthly expense and this month I experienced my highest ever electric bill and everyone with this electric company is feeling the same financial strain.

[We read] In KJV, Ezekiel 22:30: "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none." My name is Lisa Conroy. My Husband and I watch your services online. We love Pastor Rees and the others too! My husband and I live in Pennsylvania. In 2015 he rededicated his life to God and in turn, led me to salvation. Since then we have been through a LOT of hardship. We cannot seem to catch a break! Now my health is declining a bit, and I cannot work. I get SSI but not much. My husband has been working 50-60 hour weeks for quite a while at a christian book warehouse/publisher. Our car runs.. just barely! It's in need of repair. We rent a small apartment-1 bedroom 1 bath. When the bills are paid there's nothing left for food. I'm writing to ask for prayer. My husband feels like a failure. He's angry at God and is losing his faith in God. I admit I have those times too. But I think it's worse for him. Can you pray for him? "The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine upon you. And be gracious to you. The Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace." Numbers 6: 24-26. Lisa Conroy

I would like to request a prayer for my sister Debbie. She has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. She has started her chemo and radiation. It's been a very rough road with all the medical field personnel shortages. After her first chemo, she came home and the tube had started leaking out everything she ate and drank. Her Doctor couldn't get her in until Thursday. There is an 8 hour wait in the emergency room. Luckily she has a friend who is an RN, and she came over and fixed it. That's just one small thing that has gone wrong. Thank- you for your prayers.

Please pray for our son Titus. He will be getting a scope of his esophagus at the end of this month in Cincinnati. Please pray that the procedure goes well, that his esophagus is healed of the inflammation, that the medicine is working properly, and that my son is taking the medicine properly (he must swallow an inhaled medicine), Also, please pray for protection of my son and our whole family's general health. The procedure will be cancelled if our son has COVID or any upper respiratory symptoms that would affect his breathing. Thank you so much for your prayers.

This past Saturday night my son started having covid symptoms. We tested him Sunday with an at-home test, and it came back positive. Yesterday-Tuesday-we decided to test the whole family because my daughter started having symptoms Monday night. The results came back today with 4 of the 5 of us positive. With my wife's health conditions, covid is a greater risk, and as of right now, she is the only one that tested negative. My family needs prayers, especially my wife. We have tried so hard for the past 2 years to stay covid-free, and we were so close to being fully vaccinated. We had appointments set for this week and next for our family to get the 2nd shot.

A physician from MD Anderson called Doug to tell him he'd reviewed all his records, and there's nothing they could offer him at MD Anderson. Doug and Laura have canceled their trip. While they're thankful they didn't waste time and money on an unnecessary trip. they're without any options at this point. There's a possibility of a trial study, but that's to be determined. Please pray that Doug and Laura can continue to trust God, even in the darkness. Pray for Doug's physical suffering and that they have direction, peace, and the joy of God's presence.

Doug has been accepted as a patient at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Please pray for Doug and Laura as they travel down there Tuesday, December 11 for several days of testing. This is a huge answer to previous prayers, but now we're asking that God provide a new treatment option, safety as they travel, and His peace as they navigate all the medical information.
